Red Rock Day School

At Red Rock Day School, our students’ health, safety, and well‑being are our top priorities. Our front office team works closely with families, teachers, and community partners, including Diné Youth, Indian Health Services (Health Promotion), SPARKS, and independent service providers to ensure every student has the support they need to thrive.

Enrollment Health Requirements

To help us keep all students safe, families are asked to provide:

  • Up‑to‑date immunization records for every enrolled student.
  • Copies of any current IEP or 504 plans from previous schools.
  • Information about any medical conditions, including allergies. A doctor’s note is required for all diagnosed health conditions.

Keeping records current helps staff prepare for student needs and respond appropriately during the school day.

School Health Screenings

The school monitors student health concerns that may affect learning and overall well-being. Staff may communicate with families if they notice concerns that could benefit from additional follow-up.

The school provides:

  • Hearing screenings
  • Vision screenings
  • General health observations and referrals

School staff members do not diagnose medical conditions. Families should follow up with a healthcare provider if additional evaluation or treatment is needed.

When to Keep Your Student Home

Please keep your student home when they are sick. Students should stay home if they have symptoms such as:

  • Fever
  • Vomiting
  • Flu-like symptoms
  • Symptoms that prevent participation in learning

If a student becomes ill during the school day, staff will contact a parent or guardian. Students who need to leave class due to illness will remain in a supervised area until a parent or guardian arrives.

Medication at School

Red Rock Day School does not have a school nurse on staff.

Students who need medication during the school day should bring medication in the original container with the student's name and dosage information clearly labeled.

Parents or guardians must provide written instructions for over-the-counter medication, including:

  • Dosage
  • Frequency
  • Special instructions

Contact the school office with questions about medication procedures before sending medication to school.

How We Handle Medical Emergencies

If a medical emergency occurs, staff will seek immediate medical care and contact a parent or guardian as quickly as possible.

A staff member will remain with the student until a parent or guardian arrives.

Illness Response & Learning Support

The school follows health guidance from public health agencies and education partners when responding to illnesses such as COVID-19, RSV, flu, and other communicable illnesses.

Communication between families and school staff helps us support our students’ learning during health‑related absences.
